AlunaGeorge - Your Drums, Your Love

lehotshit:

We previously posted the audio clip for the delightful “Your Drums, Your Love” from UK duo AlunaGeorge. Today, we have a video to compliment the song; Henry Scholfield directed it. The two are currently putting the finishing touches to their yet-to-be-titled debut album.

UNF! I LOVE AlunaGeorge! Finally I have something new to listen from her, and finally a new video! She’s like chillwave, some post dubstep (I really hate that term but whatevs), mashed w/90s R&B and I love it so much. Basically… trip-hop. I’m glad it’s making a come back. I also really dig her fashion style. I love how effortless she looks - not a lot of people can pull of minimalism. She can.

Public Enemy-Don’t Believe The Hype (by frosty1852)

1.) Because seeing Chuck D perform w/DJ Lord was just bomb.

2.) Because I want to be Chuck D’s friend. After hearing him speak at San Diego Music Thing, all I could think was “Can we be homies?” He has a lot to say, A LOT. But it all makes sense, and there is a lot of truth behind what he says. A lot of truth about the music industry and the state of the world. Crazy intelligent man - funny too. And WTF up w/his incredible memory? He remembers everything! Most touring musicians do not.

*le sigh* wish I got better photos, but it’s alright.

Sunday Girl - Love U More (RAC Mix) (by SSTSSTEEE)

This song is feeding my bipolar weather feelings. I want it to stay summer forever, but I want cooler weather and moody music. I want to wear tights and wrap myself in cardigans. But I stepped outside to let my dog out, and 10am felt so good. Summer doesn’t end in San Diego, and I kind of love it.

And this song - it just makes me so happy. Slightly moody but slightly carefree and loving. I like music because of how it makes me feel.

In my late teens/early twenties I went through a pretty hardcore Cure phase. These days I find it so hard to listen to them because I get that gross dejavu feeling. I don’t want to remember my awkward days as an awkward emo kid (I certainly wasn’t goth… that was Judy)! But sometimes… sometimes a song pops up… like “Lovesong”… and I look fondly at my past. Not just of my “Cure Phase” past - but my past as a whole. I have no regrets… and I like how my musical tastes haven’t strayed too far off. Synths and melancholy will always be a huge part of my musical taste.

Fuck yo shit! Love this! So good - got that soul and funk. In line w/”Step in the Name of Love” and more. Haha and this album is now going to remind me of drunken discussions while noming on fries in NYC.

Ahhh I’m super excited to be checking out St. Lucia at the Casbah tonight! But I need to finish my work first… so for now, I have background music. And squid balls. And green tea. Why yes, I am at Tea n More right now.

Meg (Hercules) - I Won’t Say I’m in Love (by kawaiirashiki)

I can tick off an entire list of my favorite Disney songs, but “I Won’t Say I’m in Love” definitely lands in the tops. Most people tend to forget this song, or the movie altogether. “Hercules” wasn’t “Aladdin” or “Beauty and the Beast” - but it definitely had a lot of flare and sass. I felt the Muses stole the show throughout most of the film, and in this song they offer the perfect friendly opposition to Meg’s reluctancy to love.

I wish Meg were a Disney Princess - because I relate to her the most. Sassy chick w/a tomboy voice - I just can’t sing like her. Unless you are at a stoplight and happen to catch me belting out this tune LOL

Last week I saw Beach House at El Rey Theater (thank you Frances for having an extra ticket!) and though we were surrounded by PDA couples (and one possibly having a fight), I was still able to enjoy the show. You would think that w/seeing that much love in the air, a single-soul like myself would be rather bitter - ESPECIALLY at a Beach House show! But no. I did feel a little sadness within my heart, but that’s what I love about music. Good music touches your emotions - happy or sad. Why would I be bitter at that?

Sidenote: Despite my friend’s distaste for the lighting, I LOVED the stage setup! The giant fans that turned into window blinds that turned into a cityscape… amazing! And the starry night of course! LOL and we were next to the lighting guy too, so part of the time I was watching him control the mood of the show. Applaudes to him!

In conjunction to JJAMZ streaming their entire debut album, “Suicide Pact,” on AOL Spinner (personal review from me upon request) - the band has also premiered their second video “Heartbeat” on MTV. It’s another summery indie pop track, a nice follow up to their first single “Never Enough,” but let me tell you… the video is far from “nice.” Claiming to be based on “true events” - “Heartbeat” is a video fit for late 70s/early 80s horror.  The video follows innocent and sweet Z Berg around her high school, but like an after school special gone wrong, we aren’t the only ones following her. Unbeknownst to the pretty varsity student, a shadowy figure lurks behind closed doors and lockers. Pretty creepy!

But aside from all that, let me briefly discuss w/you the styling of this video, seeing as it is Monday, and I might as well do a #Fashion #MusicMonday! Obviously the styling is going to be very simple - late 70s school girl w/o appearing unquestionably vintage. A simple scoop neck body suit tucked into high waisted hot pants does the trick.

This is actually one of my favorite looks - when it comes to my casual style, I have always been more in favor of simple looks from the past. Currently I am not wearing an outfit of that time (I’m still in my jammies to be frank), but this past 4th of July I was!

My friend Frances and I somehow both managed to find ourselves transported in time w/our outfits. It wasn’t planned… and funnily enough we were at a disco event (oh hello Rhonda). You can’t really see our outfits too well - but aren’t we adorable (OK I look a little sinister)? We are both sporting high waisted shorts w/our tops tucked in. It’s the perfect summer outfit - at a location that matches “Heartbeat” a little better than the video! But I still love the cheesy creepiness of it, so cheers!
